New Year's Eve is the last day of the year and a time when people like to wave farewell to the old year and welcome in the new year with a big celebration.
In many countries big parties are held all over the land. In Britain Christmas is spent with family; whereas, New Year's Eve is _1_ with friends. Bars, restaurants and nightclubs put on special events where you need to buy tickets well in _2_. On this special night, everything seems to cost more; tickets for events are much more expensive than usual and taxi prices double. _3_ you go, there are large groups of people trying to make sure they’re having a good time. In fact, many people dislike the pressure of having to have a good time on New Year's Eve and find the evening to be an anticlimax.
Many people go and watch firework displays and enjoy the countdown to the new year outdoors. You've probably seen images of New Year's Eve celebrations in Times Square in New York _4_ TV.
